INTRODUCTION

Until my twenties, I considered myself agnostic, but had a great respect for believers. At twenty-three, I read The Dead Talk to Us, written by Father François Brune. It altered my beliefs. From that point on, my spiritual quest really started and I tried to apprehend life from a spiritual perspective. Who are we in our wholeness? What is spirituality about? How can it help us heal and evolve? What is the world of spirit? How can we connect with it? How can we be guided and supported by it? What are the universal laws that many spiritual traditions highlighted to help us understand life and evolution better? How can we use these laws? How can The Divine/Spirit be apprehended?

A year later, Joséphine, my paternal grandmother, to whom I was very close, died. In my family, she was the only one who believed in God and went to church. The previous shift in my beliefs helped me accept her death and desire to die. During the last six months of her life, she was sick, tired and was praying to die. Even if I would have liked for her to live longer and told her so in our regular phone conversations, I also respected her choice. I understood her and accompanied her in that process. She was a woman of great intelligence, heart and spirit. She passed on to me her love, respect for and interest in nature and plants as natural medicine. The person she was and her life, has always been a wonderful inspiration to me and to many others. Through her actions, love and generosity, she taught me that the beliefs we have become truly meaningful if we apply them to our life. By serving and sharing good things, by using our gifts, wealth and qualities, we make this world a better place. Whatever scale our actions have, they are our contribution to the greatest good of all. Ultimately, this is what counts.

‘ We ourselves feel that what we are doing is just a drop in the ocean. But if that drop was not in the ocean,
I think that the ocean would be less because of that missing drop. I do not agree with the big way of doing things.’

Mother Teresa, Catholic nun and missionary, A Gift for God

‘ Our goodness derives not from our capacity to think but to love.’
St Teresa of Avila, Carmelite nun and mystic, Book of the Foundations
